Dial-Up Windows 95 or 98 Configuration

1. Double click My Computer on your desktop.

2. Double click the Dial-Up Networking folder.

3. Double click the Make New Connection icon.

4. The Make New Connection window will open. Type in Destek Connect for the name of the computer you are dialing. Make sure that your modem is listed under Select a modem. Click Next.

5. Leave the Area code field blank and type in your local access number in the Telephone number field. Please be sure to verify it's not a toll call. Click Next. Then click Finish at the next screen.

6. Right mouse click your newly created Destek Connect icon in the Dial-Up Networking folder and click on Properties.

7. Click on the Server Types tab of the window that opens. Make sure that Enable software compression and TCP/IP are the ONLY items that are checked. Click OK.

8. Double click on the Destek Connect icon in the Dial Up Networking folder, enter your user name, enter your password, and click connect.

E-Mail Configuration Netscape 4

Netscape Messenger (part of Netscape Communicator 4)

(Note: These instructions were written for Netscape Communicator version 4. If your version is different, you may have to interpret these instructions for your version. Although the methodology used to do this may vary, the information you need to input remains the same no matter what mail program you may be using.

You can check which version you have by starting the program and going to the Help | About… menu)

Configuring Netscape Messenger 

  1. Start Netscape Communicator.
  2. Click on the Communicator menu, then click on Messenger Mailbox.
  3. Once the program loads, click on Edit, then click on Preferences.
  4. In the frame on the left, click on the ‘+’ next to Mail & Groups to expand that tree.
  5. Underneath that, select Mail Server.
  6. In the Mail Server Username field, type in your username (the part of your email address before the @ sign).
  7. In the Outgoing Mail Server field, type in mail.aspi.net.
  8. In the Incoming mail server field, type in mail.aspi.net.
  9. Click OK.

For ASPI Subscribers with Multiple E-Mailboxes

As of version 4, Netscape Messenger supports only one mail account.

Newsgroups in Netscape Messenger (Part of Netscape Communicator version 4.7)

(Note: These instructions were written for Netscape Communicator version 4.7. If your version is different, you may have to interpret these instructions for your version. Although the methodology used to do this may vary, the information you need to input remains the same no matter what news program you may be using.)

Configuration Information

  1. Start Netscape Messenger. 
  2. Go to Edit | Preferences. Click on the ‘+’ next to the Mail & Groups line to expand the tree.
  3. Then click on ‘Newsgroup Servers’. Click ‘Add…’.
  4. In the ‘Server’ field, type in news.aspi.net.
  5. Then click ‘OK’.
  6. That is all that is required to set up access to newsgroups.
  7. Click OK.

Subscribing to Newsgroups

  1. If this is your first time running this program, you’ll need to download the list of available newsgroups from our server. Be aware that there are tens of thousands of groups, and downloading the list may take anywhere from a few minutes on up, depending on the speed of your connection. 
  2. Go to File | Subscribe. The program will automatically download the list of newsgroups.
  3. After it is finished, you can click on any group name, then click Subscribe.
  4. You can subscribe to as many as you want.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Double-clicking on the newsgroup’s name will download and list the article headers.

Reading Newsgroups

  1. After subscribing to a newsgroup, the newsgroup’s name will appear in the left frame of the program.
  2. Click on the name of the newsgroup you want to read. It will download the list of message headers.
  3. You can read individual messages by clicking on the header.
